Hi, I’m Tom 👋

I write here on schimana.net about retro computing, photography, gravel biking, training, marketing, web design, and whatever else catches my interest.

How it all started

It all began in the early 80s with a C64. Then came several Amigas, an Atari ST, and what started as a hobby eventually became a career. I’ve been through pretty much everything IT has to offer. It started with DOS and Novell, then came Unix and Microsoft, later data centers and the cloud. These days I work in marketing, still within the IT world. The fascination with technology never left. Today it shows up in retro computing and in tinkering with microcontrollers like the Raspberry Pi Pico.

Sport & other interests

Sport has been part of my life for many years. Through strength training I got into powerlifting, including competitions, which kept me busy with training, nutrition, and supplements. These days I also enjoy riding gravel and still train with weights. Photography is my newest addition, both digital and analog.

This blog

I’ve had a blog on and off over the years, and now the urge to start one is back. Expect a fairly mixed bag here, because my interests are all over the place. Due to time constraints I tend to dive deep into one topic for a while, then move on to something else entirely. So don’t be surprised if things get very technical one week and completely different the next. Maybe there’s something in it for you too.

Enjoy reading.
